The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), a neutral and independent humanitarian organization, has a vacancy at its Mission in Athens for a resident position:
Program & Support Officer to Protection Unit (M/F)
In her/his role as a Program & Support Officer, s/he assists the ICRC on activities related to missing persons and Forensics, with a particular focus on migrants. The Program & Support Officer assists the department (incl. Forensic, Restoring Family Links and Missing services) on tracing cases for which forensic expertise is required. S/he ensures follow-up, technical/admin support, case management, quality control procedures, communication and coordination with forensic authorities, as well as training to relevant interlocutors. When required, s/he helps representing the ICRC towards external interlocutors with translation and reporting.
General Overview
S/he facilitates training exercises for Hellenic Red Cross (HRC) staff and interlocutors on forensic issues and carries out administrative duties to support the team in organizational matters;
Helps to sensitise staff and relevant external stakeholders on issues related to humanitarian forensic action relating to deceased migrants on the migratory route towards Greece.
Maintains an active dialogue with the ICRC delegations and HRC on cases of deceased migrants and follow-up, including compilation of lists of missing, quality control, and statistical information.
S/he is responsible for the administrative procedures of the RFL/Missing/Forensic Unit.
S/he maintains and updates the case files archive in line with ICRC procedures.
Under supervision of the Forensic Advisor s/he supports HRC RFL team on the review of forensic data and follow up of tracing case work.
Manages the forensic material and tools required for program implementation.
Compiles all legal related documents regarding missing persons and personal data protection.
Ideal profile
University degree in any of the medical sciences will be preferable, as well as practical experience in forensic identification practice and casework; young graduates will be considered.
Highly motivated to work in the humanitarian field.
Previous experience with a humanitarian organisation is desirable.
Excellent knowledge of spoken and written Greek and English; other languages will be an asset.
Very good computer literacy.
High organisational and case management skills.
Good rigor, method and analytical skills.
Eager to travel regularly.
Driving license compulsory.
- This is a resident position which salary is based on the Greece salary scale of the ICRC Mission
