The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), a neutral and independent humanitarian organization, has a vacancy at its Mission in Athens for a resident position:
Interpreter (M/F)
The interpreter provides accurate translation from/to Arabic to/from English and Greek. He/shecontributes to the implementation of the Protection objectives of the ICRC Mission in Greece. As part of a team, he/she carries out visits to places of detention and closed facilities hosting migrants/refugees.He/she participates to other activities aiming at the reinforcement of the protection of migrants/refugees.
General Overview
Carries out verbal and written translations/interpretation from/to Arabic to/from Greek and English.
Contributes to the implementation and running of specific projects/ programmes.
Develops and maintains contacts with beneficiaries and other external interlocutors at various levels.
Presents the ICRC principles, mandate and activities to interlocutors and beneficiaries at a district level.
Support in the preparation of field trips.
Ideal profile
High school degree minimum
Confirmed experience (1-2 years) in the field of expertise of the ICRC (NGOs, IOs, National Societies)
Fluent in spoken and written Greek and Arabic, very good knowledge of English (other languages an asset)
Motivation for and commitment to humanitarian work
Ability, flexibility and willingness to travel frequently (minimum of 2 weeks/month)
Good inter-personal and networking skills
Good communication, organizational and analytical skills
Ability to work effectively under pressure and to deliver within deadlines
Ability to work in a team as well as independently
Computer-literate
Driving license valid in Greece
