The ICRC has been working in the Philippines for more than 50 years. It carries out a range of activities to meet the needs of displaced and other vulnerable people, promote respect for international humanitarian law, and respond to emergencies, often in cooperation with its local partner, the Philippine Red Cross (PRC).

The ICRC in Philippines is hiring for a

MEDICAL FIELD OFFICER
Health Department
Based in Makati City

With leadership of the Health Program Manager, the MEDICAL FIELD OFFICER contributes to the implementation and running of "TB (tuberculosis) in Jails" program in joint collaboration with the ICRC TB team.

Main tasks:

  • Collaborates with the jail/prison laboratory team in conducting intensified TB case detection
  • Helps improve quality of lab performance and practices in early TB case finding by avoiding backlogs of awaiting presumptive TB for lab examination
  • Conducts timely laboratory follow up for TB patients
  • Assists laboratory teams of the TB project sites in conducting direct follow up on the baseline and follow up culture/DST of DR-TB patients with the national service providers
  • Participates in inter-agency communications, meetings, workshops, seminars and group interactions related to the promotion and review of laboratory policies, SOPs and program implementations
  • Ensures harmonization of the international laboratory guidelines on TB diagnosis and follow up with the existing national guidelines in consultation with technical experts
  • Serves as the focal person in assisting laboratory activities of the ICRC supported TB project sites in jails/prisons
  • Participates in detention-related activities, in collaboration with the Healthcare in Detention team and in the analysis of the collected information proposing possible solutions
  • Participates in prison visits by assessing health status and access to health care for detainees, with particular focus on tuberculosis
  • Supports and assists health team in elaboration and implementation of appropriate emergency health responses in natural disasters and other main humanitarian emergency concerns
  • Maintains contacts with relevant interlocutors including health authorities and the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) staff members at local level
  • Contributes to report writing

Minimum required profile:

  • Bachelor's degree in public health, nursing medical technology or equivalent
  • Minimum 4-years work experience in health field
  • Good knowledge of public health, of local health services and systems
  • Fluent in written and spoken English and local language/s
  • Team leadership skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Good computer skills
  • Good analytical skills

Competencies:

  • Proven TB laboratory experience is an advantage
  • Work exposure in community health
