The ICRC's Somalia Delegation in Nairobi implements the institution's humanitarian activities in Somalia. **INTERNAL VACANCY

FAS FIELD OFFICER - MOGADISHU **

The field officer (FO) will be based in Somalia and contribute to the implementation and running of specific projects / programmes. Develop and maintain contacts with authorities or other external interlocutors at various levels independently. Present the ICRC principles, mandate and activities to interlocutors and beneficiaries. Plan and organise field trips. Contribute to written reporting. Analyse the socioeconomic, political and cultural situation of the covered area and its humanitarian consequences Main Responsibilities:

 Deliver military education based on International Humanitarian Law (IHL) principles and/or a Code of Conduct to armed forces with a focus on the Somali National Army (SNA).

 Support the FAS Delegate in building and maintaining a network of concerning military and other Weapon Bearing Actors of Influence interlocutors.

 Disseminate the appropriate procedures to be taken by armed forces in the case of a detention/ defection/ surrender as established in SNA rules and/ or the AMISOM Standard Operating Procedures for the Handling of Persons Detained by AMISOM (AMISOM SOP).

 Support the Protection Team by identifying patterns concerning the Protection of Civilian Population (PCP) related to use of explosive weapons in populated areas, indiscriminate fire among any other behaviour which can cause civilian casualties or mistreatment; develop a network of relevant contacts with which to raise such concerns.

 Support the Head of Office (HoO) in their understanding of security and military forces in their area.

 Provide regular reporting to his/her activities as per standard ICRC format.

 To keep himself updated concerning new weapons systems, military tactics, and military doctrines. Minimum Requirements:

 Secondary School or college

 Military background, preferably as a senior officer

 Good knowledge of spoken and written English and Somali

 Somali National

 Good communication skills,

 Available to travel frequently

 Good knowledge of the geographically assigned environment

 Good analytical skills
