Information on the position

The Law and Policy Forum brings together ICRC's various training and outreach capacities in humanitarian law and action, with a view to promote IHL and other relevant norms, and to influence key actors and decision-makers on humanitarian issues of importance to the organisation. Through its different components (academic relations, the International Review of the Red Cross, online and onsite legal training, outreach and events, the Visitors & Conference center), FORUM acts as a channel between the ICRC and the outside world. It carries out direct outreach activities to key external audiences, following a thematic approach and pursuing academic excellence.

Relying on the expertise and substance developed within the broader Department, the unit:

  • develops and maintains a solid onsite and digital learning capability providing actors of influence with a comprehensive training offer firstly centered on IHL, other relevant norms, related policies and positions, including those dealing more broadly with humanitarian action; and
  • offers tools and platforms enabling academic research and debate addressing topics related to the mentioned areas of focus
  • fosters debate on law and policy through the organization of thematic events with a global reach.

Function

Under the direct supervision of the Deputy Head of Unit, the post-production/graphic design officer is tasked with producing law & policy promotion and communication materials for print and online formats. He/she also supports the Unit's web marketing as well as the content-management of the various FORUM web sections (Law & Policy platform, online casebook, online training centre) and the Department's Law & War web section. He/she works in close coordination with the Communication Department.

Main Responsibilities

  • Production of promotional and communication materials*
  • Video production and post-production (video interviews, trailers, motion graphics, etc.)
  • Design of infographics (static, interactive, and/or animated)
  • Design of digital and online publications (e.g. "Magazine Revue", e-briefings)
  • Design of promotional items such as leaflets, posters and other print publications, USB keys/cards, etc.
  • Design of newsletters and other online promotional items.
  • Website management and online promotion*
  • Design and creation of various webpages managed by DP_FORUM or other units within the Department (i.e. War & Law section on icrc.org)
  • Online promotion of events (courses, web-based seminars, conferences, etc.) on relevant websites and social networks
  • Online distribution of the unit's communication products such as newsletters
  • Periodic update of the unit's webpages and of the online casebook web platform.
  • Main experience and skills required for the post*
  • University degree or equivalent in graphic design, multimedia design or audio-visual technologies
  • Confirmed practical experience in audio-visual technologies and graphic design
  • Good command of Adobe Premiere Pro and/or Final Cut Pro or equivalent video-editing tool and After Effects, good command of print and digital publishing tools such as InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator
  • Good knowledge of HTML5 and CSS3 (Javascripts basics an advantage)
  • Experience in web marketing, including social networks, an advantage
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Sense of initiative
  • Interest in humanitarian law and humanitarian action.

Languages required: Good oral communication skills in English and French, other languages an advantage.

Proposed length of assignment: 2 years, renewable.
