Main responsibilities:
Conducts research and analysis, advices and monitors on legal and socio-political issues concerning ICRC protection activities in Sri Lanka (ex. prison reforms, judicial guarantees, missing persons)
Participates in promotion and implementation of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and Human Rights Law amongst governmental authorities
Performs independent research and analysis of specific legal matters and broader sectors of the national legal system affecting ICRC protection activities in Sri Lanka
Provides support and legal advice to other departments of the delegation when necessary
In charge of project/program reporting
Disseminates at an expert level Participates in budget preparation
Required qualification and experience:
Master degree in Law
Doctorate or specialisation in International Humanitarian Law (IHL) or related area of International Law
A background/knowledge of national criminal justice procedures and law
6 years work experience in a similar capacity
Confirmed teaching/dissemination experience
Fluent in spoken and written English and (a) national language(s)
Excellent drafting skills
Good communication & negotiation skills
The candidate (male/female) ought to have a strong commitment to impartial humanitarian work and a very good sense of initiative allowing him/her to work independently in a conscientious and resourceful manner. Flexibility and polyvalence are considered as essential assets for the candidate.
Starting date: May 2016
Duration of employment: Fixed term contract for six months.
